Tools at Walmart and Shopping Fun

I wound up crashing on the couch last night, but I crashed hard. I guess I needed it. I woke up with a plan for my morning and I stuck with it. I offered dad a Red Velvet Cake Shake. “If I’m going to have a shake, I don’t think I’m in the mood for Red Velvet.” Well, whatchya want, pops? “Are you able to make a Banana Creme Pie?” OK, see you in 10!

Banana Creme Pie

  • 1-2 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 Tbsp SF FF Banana Cream pudding mix
  • 1 Tbsp crushed graham crackers

Dad said it was the best shake I’ve made him! Dad was double-fisting this morning with his shake and a mug of coffee.

Before I lost my motivation, I cut my conversation with dad short, suited up, and ventured into the beautiful breeze in Wilmington, this morning, and did a little refrain running for about 2 and 3/4 mile. My destination was to the ACME. They were having a big dollar sale on celery, mushrooms, and assorted produce, and wanted to stock up.

I took my sweet ole time in the store and found some interesting items. I was picture snapping machine:

Oh no! Which to choose? I was a good girl and maintained my self control.

Interesting… convenient… but how spoiled are we that we need flat marshmallows?

Shut the front door! My jaw dropped!

The tiny pepperoni! I had to laugh and just imagined myself giving those out to trick-or-treaters. The poptarts? Both my dad and Barry insisted on the purchase. I have not tried them yet. And the cookies? I’m waiting for an oreo surround by chocolate chip cookies… then I’ll faint into a cookie wonderland.

Speaking of cookies, I found this link that I thought was really interesting! It all makes sense, now! No wonder I love oreos!

Oreos and Cocaine

Frank picked me up at the store and we hit Walmart for a few final items. When walking out of the store, I could not believe my eyes! Not about food, but about the complete tool that was parked next to us. Who the heck makes these stickers, let alone has the audacity to put them on their car. Unexceptable in my book!

Tools at Walmart: I’m going to guess you graduated the bottom of your high school class, spend most of your time looking at yourself, work at McD, have the IQ of that pile of dog waste on the lawn, and probably aren’t the the prettiest sight, yourself…

Okay, off my pedestal. Despite this butthead, I was still in a great mood. I decided to switch up my post-jog routine. Instead of a shake, I remembered Julie’s protein pancakes and made the following:

Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein PancakesWP_004336

  • 1 scoop chocolate protein powder
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 Tbsp cottage cheese
  • 1/2 Tbsp Chocolate PB2

Blend in food processor until smooth.

I topped mine with SF Strawberry preserves and loved every bite!

My day continued to be great when Barry called and asked if I wanted to meet up with his mom and sister. Katie is pregnant and was maternity shopping. As she was trying on mommy-to-be jeans, I wandered around the maternity. First, I through a shirt at her. Its Eagles… what did you expect? Next, a small selection of Luna bars caught my eye. As my eyes traveled along the shelving, another variety of bars caught my attention: Belly Bar Boost. First of all, how cute is that name? With my protein bar impulse, I wanted to grab one, but I have no need for it! (You hear that dad? I don’t need it!) Anyway, still full of curiosity, I checked them out and couldn’t help but smile at the names of the flavors: Baby Needs Chocolate, Lemon Lovey, S’More to Love, and Berry Nutty Cravings. I think its awesome that these pre-natal nutrition bars were made for the mommy-on-the-go!

Then, Mrs. Preggers, as Barry calls his sister, began with the cravings… “I want froyo. Let’s get frozen yogurt.”

WP_004343

You can tell who’s bowl each belongs to.

To end this day, Barry and I headed back to my place and caught up on some episodes of Chicago Fire. Thank you, OnDemand. Since my dinner was left-over from the night before, I heated up my spaghetti and microwaved a frozen meal for Barry. Both were yummy. What a great way to start my weekend!

After tomorrow’s planned event, I hope theres a post for you tomorrow night.

Simple Days and Giant Strawberries

Eating was simple today.

The first half of the day amounted to about 4 net carbs. HAHA

During break, today, in clinical, I sat down to a cup of coffee and an a Blueberry Almond Atkins Baked Square. I liked how filling it was and the big chunks of almonds and blueberries in every bite! The drizzle of icing was a nice sweet touch, as well.

WP_002179

Not having something to drink after clinical, I enjoyed my emergency lunch that I always keep in the car: Atkins Wild Berry Day Break Shake.

Dinner was far too simple, as it was a bowl of Campbell’s Chunky Healthy Request Grilled Chicken and Sausage Gumbo with some Brown Rice Sweet Tomato Basil Triscuits.

The highlight, or should I say shocker, of the day was the strawberries! I went to the store on my way home to grab strawberries, which I saw were on sale. I couldn’t believe how big these babies were! I bought two pints.  I had to! I couldn’t pass it up!

Check it out! Its the size of my palm! And, boy, it was good!

WP_002181

I have so many strawberries in my tummy right now!

So like I said, a pretty simple day.

But what is NOT so simple, is the paperwork due by next week! It feels like all I do is sit in front of my laptop!

On the bright side, I submitted my first job application for a nursing position! Wish me luck!

Heres a little picture I acquired during my geriatric rotation that I found humorous:

Copy Cat

I started my testing morning as I typically do, with a bowl of oatmeal. Using package oatmeal is super easy on test mornings. I decided on Very Berry oatmeal by Better Oats. I find this oatmeal to be rather sweet, so I cut it down by adding some nut butter and ground flax. This brand of oatmeal already has flax seed, but a little more won’t hurt me. This morning, I used the soy nut butter. I figured the oatmeal would mask its interesting flavor. I was right, and this breakfast kept me very full. It was paired with a cup of coffee.

After the exam, I hit the gym. As I began my warm-up on the elliptical, I checked my email. I did not really have an idea of what I wanted to do today so it worked out that I was greeted with an email from Julie, pbfingers. The idea of spending a little extra time on the elliptical appealed to me so I stayed on, like she did today, and completed her Upper Body Super Set. (Since our small school gym does not have a barbell, I used the bend for the chest presses.) There was a girl at the gym who wanted to work on her arms so I invited her to join me. Time goes by sooooo much faster when someone else is with you!

Post workout, I arrived home to enjoy a banana and finish some homework. I also steamed a very petite bowl of baby carrots.

Nap time! Literally.. thats all I got was a nap. I only slept for about 2 hours, so it looks like tonight will be a caffeined night shift. Therefore, I got my booty up, took a shower and made a shake and some coffee.

Back in January, Julie posted an energizing smoothie that caught my attention. I made a mental note to use my frozen mango for this… well, apparently I stuck that mental note way too far in the back of my head, because I just now remembered it. I figured this would be the perfect pick me up for night shift!

Here’s my take on her creative genius:WP_001421

  • 1/2 banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen mango
  • 1 Dannon Light and Fit Strawberry Greek yogurt
  • 1 scoop vanilla protein powder
  • a handful fresh kale
  • ice and water

Woah Mama! This was delicious! I had to control myself. Plus, it was super filling. It also turned out nice and thick and ate it with a spoon out of my tumbler. I called dad up, as I slurpped away at this tumbler full of yum, and told him that he was going to get one for breakfast tomorrow! He could not refuse!

Night Shift and The Purple People Eater

Wednesday:

Another early morning. I had to finish some homework before heading to class. As I was working on the homework, I began  to think about the events of the next few days, and just how utterly sleep deprived I am going to be. (You’ll find out why.)

WP_001320Class was educational and then I had to go to a seminar. During class, I ate Dannon Light and Fit Greek Peach yogurt topped with some chis seeds. On my way to the seminar, I could feel some hungry starting to arise so I swung by Wawa. Thanks for the convenient snack packs, Wawa!WP_001321

I always have issues driving in Bear… I’m always getting lost! I found the location and we learned about stroke prevention. Our project is to conduct stroke assessments on members of our communities to evaluate their risk for a stroke.

I was starving when I got home, so I grabbed a quick bite and I’m headed to bed.

I am working night shift tonight, so I’m praying I’ll get some  sleep before then. Tomorrow night, I am attending a black and gold (ie. we wear black and gold). My girlfriends are in a sorority and I go every year, which is why I was freaking out about having a dress.

Thursday:

I was woken up by my mom and step dad last night. Must they always feel the need to talk outside my bedroom foot when I’m sleeping?
I like to start nightshift with a smoothie. All the protein and fresh fruit gives me an nice buzz to get me going. Yesterday, was National Strawberry Day, so i wanted to incorporate some in my shake. I must say, though, the blueberries took control of this one. “Mom, is it weird that I just named my smoothie ‘the purple people eater?'” “Yes.” “Thanks, mom.”

Into the bullet went:WP_001322
spinach,
frozen strawberries,
half a frozen banana,
fresh blueberries,

vanilla protein powder

raw cashew butter,

ice
When it was all mixed up, it was a purple “monster.”

I’m pretty happy about my eating last night. Julie is always raving about Milk Chocolate Moose Munch, but last night was the first time I got to try it. Can you guess what I liked the most about it? The nuts, duh!!! I also snacked on baby carrots, these new Back to Nature Sweet Potato and Cinnamon crackers I’ve recently been obsessed with, and granny smith with Chocolate PB2 and graham crackers.

Eight hours, three cups of coffee and a dark chocolate covered espresso bean, I kept busy most of the night and even caught up on some reading for school.

Fleece-Lined Leggings

Probably one of the best investments I’ve ever made was buying fleece-lined leggings at the New Castle Farmer’s Market. They are amazing! They are thick enough to wear as bottoms with a long top, flexible enough to work out in, thin enough to wear under my scrub pants (scrub pants aren’t exactly the warmest), and, oh gosh, I live in these things! I wear them under my scrub pants at clinical and work this time of year and they keep me toasty but not sweating. I ran my 5 miles yesterday in them. They kept me flexible, unrestrained, warm, but breathable.

They are like the ultimate transition wear: wake up, put on tights, work out, slide on scrubs, come home take off pant, work out…

I HIGHLY recommend getting yourself some of these babies!

Today, I worked day shift. One my cold drive in, I snacked on a Nature Valley Recharge granola bar, Cranberry Almond. I was surprised how much I liked it better than the Cherry Dark Chocolate!

WP_001105 (1)

I really liked the cranberries in this bar. They weren’t dried out, but juicy. Plus the bar had a nice chewy crunch, which I love!

The highlight of my day, though, was when I decided to assess one of my patients and while doing so, found some skin breakdown that no one had caught before. The nurse said, “Good job, Sam! I’m glad you caught that!” This just made me feel like I was another step closer to becoming a nurse!

Food-wise, I ate a Muller greek strawberry yogurt. I kept seeing this brand on sale 10 for 10 so I gave them a shot. With yogurts that have fruit purees, I tend to cut the sweetness with ground flax. I did so today, and yum!!!

all blended up!

all blended up!

perfecto!

perfecto!

I got hungry a bit later at work and snacked on a Honey Almond Flax Kashi bar. I had never had this before. The honey was so mild but the bar was crunchy, enjoyable, with just a touch of sweetness!

Dinner was one of my favorite breakfasts! I had it the first time at a local restaurant because it just sound like an interesting combination: asparagus and chicken in my omelet? I chopped up two frozen asparagus spears and 2 oz of cooked chicken breast from a roast Joe Reda brought over. Pop these in a pan, pour 1/2 cup liquid egg whites, sprinkle some black pepper, and cover on low. When the egg starts to solidify, sprinkle 2 Tbsp on fat free shredded mozzarella and flip the omelet closed.

mmmmm so good!

mmmmm so good!

I like mine with hot sauce. Yum!

My snacks for the day were a hodgepodge of things like cottage cheese, graham crackers, fruit, etc.

Food wise, the last two days have been pretty good! I’m determined to keep this up!

Mom and I did a quick 10 minute cardio video tonight, since I was too sleepy to do one this morning before work, and I followed it up with Julies Sweat It Out Cardio and Abs Circuit!

Before bed, I prepped tomorrows crock pot dinner… Beef Stew. I know I’ve been slacking on the crock pot recipes, but time is running out and I still have a few more to make before the end of the month. Any suggestions?

Upside Down Kinda Day

Last night’s dinner was super filling!

I woke up this morning determined to start this funky-scheduled day with some pep. When I start my day with exercise, I always feel invincible for the rest of the day.

I began with cleaning out the fireplace and bringing in some fire wood from the 20 degree F porch to warm up the house. Once I got my pyro-fix, I started Julie’s Super Sweaty Ab Workout (one of my favorites)! Mountain Climbers kick my butt every time!

Once I completed this, I whipped out the magic bullet. I really wanted to use my homemade cashew butter today so I looked to my fellow nut butter lover, Julie, for some inspiration. The following found its way into my tummy:

half of a frozen banana

1 tbsp cashew butter

Strawberry Dannon Light and Fit yogurt

1 scoop Herbalife Vanilla Protein Drink Mix

1 scoop Herbalife Vanilla Formula 1

15g (1/4 to 1/3 cup) kale, chopped

1/4 tsp xanthum

Image

After enjoying majority of this smoothie bowl and some serious brain freeze, I needed to knock out a lecture before class today. This bowl was so filling, I did not even think of food till close to 1600.

The reason I call this an “upside down kinda day” is because I work night shift tonight. Its different when you work 11pm to 7am consistently because your body adapts to that schedule, but when you work it every now and then, you just need to suck it up, sleep when you can, and power through. It also messes up my eating… like when do I sleep? What’s breakfast? Whens dinner? I feel like on days like this I eat alot of snacks, and not so much meals…

I was greeted by this view as I walked out of class:

SNOW!

SNOW!

And this pretty site on my way home:

My neighborhood is so pretty when it snows!

My neighborhood is so pretty when it snows!

After I got home from a really informative lab, I had a big bowl of fruit, from The Fresh Market, and topped it with some low fat cottage cheese! YUM!

While I am at work tonight, I will working on some reading for school, and of course, working on tomorrow’s post.
