The Bucket List

Today was all about thrills. After I saw the movie “The Bucket List,” like most people, I immediately started thinking of things I want to do before my time comes. Some items are extravagant, others are simple. Some cost a lot, others are free. Some I have completed, others still require time.

The more I thought about this list, the more lists I started forming. Now I have a notebook full of lists: Restaurants to Eat At, Books to Read, States to Visit, Countries to Visit… My list of lists is endless and ever-growing!

I wanted to sing the National Anthem at a Blue Rocks game (Wilmington’s minor league baseball team). I did that a little out of high school.

I graduated college! I did that this past May!

I wanted to fly in a plane. Three years ago, not only did I take my first flight, but I flew across the country to Seattle, WA for a Phi Theta Kappa Convention!

Today, I not only was in a plane, but I jumped out of it! That’s right!  I crossed “skydiving” off my Bucket List. I could not believe I went through with it! Barry did it, too! I couldn’t believe it! My mom started crying as we boarded the plane. It was freezing! Oddly enough, I wasn’t thinking “Oh my gosh! Am I crazy? I can’t wait to get back on land.” I was thinking, “Oh my gosh its freaking freezing up here! I can’t wait to get in the car to warm up!” Hahah! Looking back on it, I don’t think I was ever scared, just full of excitement and adrenaline!

DSCN0524After an hour drive to Free Fall Adventures, endless initially of paperwork and saying that we won’t sue, we were briefed by an instructor with an incredibly thick New Zealand accent. Next, we met the instructors we would be flying with. This is Brian… He reminds me a Deeks (Eric Christian Olsen) from NCIS:LA… He took great care of me! Plus, he was super attractive! Good a girl ask for more? Haha!

After about a 15 minute accent into the sky, we shuffled our way to the door of the plane and out we went. There was no turning back! The view still plays back in my head like a movie. It was so surreal! We descended 2 1/2 miles to the ground. The wind whipping at my face. At one point, after we first jumped, I opened my mouth to “woo hoo” and I don’t actually know if anything came out! “Oh my gosh! I’m falling! WP_004350I’m flying! Lord, keep us safe!” When we reached a certain altitude, Brian pulled the cord and the parachute deployed. After a brief delay and upward tug, we were floating.

It was so peaceful and tranquil. I could see Atlantic City on one side and Philadelphia on the other. Brian and I had a normal conversation on our way down. He even asked if I wanted to to steer the chute. “Nope! I’m fine! Thanks, though!”

When we landed, I kind of messed things up and fell to my knees like a dork, but at least I didn’t face-plant! Once we were unhooked from each other, I had to give him a hug! Then, I thanked God for a safe landing! I reunited with Barry, and then with my tearful mom, who would not let go of me!

Here’s the video of us coming in for a landing. Barry’s chute is the one that looks like a German flag. His instructor was from Germany and before we boarded the plan gave Barry the best advice:

Range (the instructor):Is this your first jump?

Barry: Yeah.

Range: Can I give you some advice? Don’t F*** this up.

We started laughing our butts off! Brian and I are the last pair to land.

Other things still on my list are marriage, children, and Master’s degree.

What’s on your Bucket List?

Following our adrenaline rush, we met up with dad for a “We’re Alive” dinner at my favorite Mexican restaurant, El Jefe. I greeted dad with a chest bump and a big hug! We sat down to chorizo con queso and 3 orders of cebollitas (my favorite). The four of us, then, dug into El Molcajete Estilo, AKA “El Jefe! This is the molten rock bowl filled with a hot reed sauce, chicken breast, steak, queso fesco, cebollitas, and jalepenos (we asked for extra), served with a side of salad, rice, and refried beans, along with four warm tortillas.

MMMMM! I love Mexican food!

It was a great day! Currently, I’m catching up on blogging, uploading videos and photos, sending resumes, and chowing on some celery!

Oh yeah, on our way to New Jersey, we drove past the Weinermobile!!!

????????????

Hope that made you smile as much as it did me!

Graduation Season

Graduation season is such an exciting time! Its the ending of one chapter, and the beginning of a new chapter of your life! It gives us an excuse to reunite with old friends and family, reminisce and eat some serious chow!

This past weekend, I celebrated the graduation of two of my closest friends: Maggie and Quinn. They are brother and sister. Maggie graduated from college, and Quinn from high school!

WP_002527 WP_002528

WP_002517I’m pretty amused that I don’t look clothed in these pictures, but that would be false! I actually felt very cute when I arrived at the party!

Their family is like my family. They are the closest, non-blood related people to me. In fact, I call their parents “mom” and “dad.” Anyway, wherever mama is, excellent food is sure to follow! But the real kicker of this party was the dessert table! Oh help me! One person brought a white chocolate coated pretzel, peanut, and chex mixture that reminded me an awful lot of the Fresh Market’s White Chocolate Crunch! Addicting! And the cookies! And the Carrot Cake! Somebody stop me! I pretty much lived near this table.

WP_002520

The one healthy thing that I seriously snacked on was the white corn salsa! It was delicious and refreshing! I got the recipe to use at my grad party at the end of the month, and will share it with you then.

I’m getting my first taste of the military, as Barry will be away for the next three weeks doing some training and drills. He was able to come home Saturday and stop by the party. And he was in uniform! He met my extended family and grabbed a bite and a drink before heading back to his house for the night.

I stayed at Maggie’s house for the night, as did many of my intoxicated friends. (Drinking and driving is strictly prohibited!) We stayed up late, as always! I began feeling mass anxiety about the over indulgence of sweet treats! I guzzled water and used my friends and text my parents for support.

The next morning, I helped the family make breakfast! It was quite a feast! Eggs, sausage, bacon, danishes, stuffed croissants from Jersey, fruit salad!

Thats a big bowl of eggs!

I really filled up on the fruit salad since I knew we would be away for a while. We then packed up the minivan and drove Quinn down to his Senior Week house in Dewey Beach.

Playing Catch Up

Like I said, I have not blogged in quite awhile. In fact, my dad text me the other night with the following:

“U havent blogged in ten days?? wtf”

Time to play a little catchup on the last week or so.

Two Saturdays ago, I met up with friends from highschool for a Class of 2009 Bar Crawl. It wasn’t ecxactly your typical bar crawl, as it was a few friends that had a drink at 3 different places on Main Street, Newark. It was a nice way for me to introduce Barry to a few freinds from highschool, as well as reunite with a really old friend from high school, Audrey!

WP_002382 WP_002383

The following day, the city of Newark had its Memorial Day Parade. It was a rather cool, rainy and dreary day, but Barry, as well as his housemate and a good friend from nursing school, were in it.

WP_002414

This year was the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War. I loved seeing all the vets, smiling with so much pride! Being there was also special for me because my grandfather is a Korean War Veteran. The VA Hospital in Wilmington has a long term care facility, where  I did my clinical rotation my very first  semester of nursing school. They brought some of the residents to be in the parade. It was great to see them still getting around and smiling!

WP_002406Handsome fella, ain’t he??

WP_002509 WP_002511

The following Tuesday was a gloomy day. Another binge and purge occurred and I was in a ball the remainder of the day. It seemed that I could not move or get myself out of this funk. Ironically, later in the day, once I got up, I had a small bowl of carb smart ice cream and felt a bit better. Chocolate has amazing powers!

I had no choice but to improve my mood the following day: Graduation Day!

After all of my hard work, craziness, eating disorder, endless hours of studying… it was here! I’m graduating! I dressed in a white sun dress and wedges, and completed the ensable with a green cap and gown, a gold stole and white rope to indicate my officer position in Phi Theta Kappa and and graduating cum laude!

923150_4476682209951_2026691336_n

Mom, Dad, Frank, and Barry were there, as were my two brothers, my neighbor, my Aunt Carol and, godfather, Uncle Bert, Aunt Chrissy and my two little cousins, my godmother, Aunt Cathy, and my Grandmother. I had to requests when graduating: to have something of my grandmother and grandfather with me on stage as I graduate. It was fate, as my grandmothers wedding band fit perfectly on my finger. My grandmother brought with her a few items of my grandfathers to choose from. Once I chose one of his pendants to wear, my grandmother told me I could keep all of the momentums!

WP_002446 WP_002448 WP_002456

The family surprised me with beautiful flowers. Barry even did  really well! MY favorite color is pink and my favorite flower is a lily. Pink lilies and roses! Score!

WP_002468 WP_002473

After a nice and brief ceremony, we headed out to Grottos to meet up with some friends. The table split a chicken cheese steak which I loved), and a veggie calzone! No worrying tonight!

I am a Graduate Nurse!!!

A Little Late for St. Patty’s Day

With this big bag of spinach in the refridgerator and a mint craving in my belly, I thought I’d try an uuber healthy Sam-rock Shake before heading off to class!

1 scoop Herbalife Vanilla Formula 1WP_002191

1 scoop Herbalife Vanilla Protein Drink Mix

1 Tbsp DaVinci sugar free Creme de Menthe

a bunch of spinach

water

ice

Eat your heart out, McDonalds!

An added bonus… it was so filling!

Wednesday wasn’t too exciting of a day, but one this that was specifically a highlight was this:

???????????????????????!

I picked up my stole and tassel for graduation! Isn’t it pretty! The symbol on the stole is the key of Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society! I can’t wait to walk up onto that stage, in less than a month, wearing these!

I got home to an fuji, cinnamon, and cottage cheese before trying to catch some Zzzz before work. Five hours isn’t too bad. Upon waking up, Glee the Concert was on TV. I kept my guilty pleasure on while I spent an hour or so sending out resumes for Registered Nurse positions in Pediatric hospitals.

Say some prayers for me! I found a couple positions open in  New York!

I headed off to a great night a t work. I had a patient that I noticed some abnormals in and mentioned it to the nurse. She evaluated the patient, confirmed my findings, and thanked me for realizing these symptoms. She wound up calling the doctor to evaluate her.

I don’t want this to sound odd, but I’m glad I had this opportunity. I mean, it reaffirms that I should be in this field, that I have accurate nursing judgement.

Moving on with the night, I had a pretty consistent night of 10 patients. Dinner was Lean Cuisine’s Chicken Marsala. I used the magical, edible fungi to bulk this up. I was disappointed to see like four pieces of chicken in this meal. Luckily, I sliced up about 4 mushrooms before leaving for work. It was really great once I added the mushrooms. I was surprised by how cheesy the parmesean pea and mushroom risotto. With some added shrooms, this is definitely an “eat again” meal!

Record Breaking

I woke up this morning bright eyed, and bushy tailed! Maybe its because I slept with the windows open last night and the fresh air was enlightening?

Spring decided to to skip this year and summer is upon us! Today, Wilmington broke records! We hit 90 degrees today! And it was beautiful!

I began this morning, by making a Kahlua shake before heading to class:WP_002061

2 scoops chocolate protein powder

1/2 frozen banana

1 Tbsp sugar free DaVinci Kahlua flavoring

handful of spinach

water

ice

After class, I had a little over an hour to kill before my graduation seminar. (Isn’t that awesome to say? “Graduation!”)  It was so beautiful outside, I sat out in the courtyard with a friend and studied for tomorrows exam.

Beautiful weather, like this makes studying so much more difficult! I just want to walk around outside, ride a bike, anything but keep my nose in a book!

With this malted milk ball kick that I’ve been on, I found Reese’s Whoppers, malted milk balls in a peanut butter coating! You can bet your bottom they were awesome!

Dinner and brain food was seasoned roasted vegetables topped with an egg over easy! Yum!

WP_002068 WP_002069

Dessert was some more brain food. Dad got me Quaker Blackberry Pomegranate rice cakes. I dipped these in some chunky PB and woah did it taste like PB&J! Heck yes!
